On the 250th anniversary of the Continental Congress calling a fast
On this day, May 17, 250 years ago, Rev. Dr. John Witherspoon preached what Rev. Kevin DeYoung called "one of the most significant sermons in American history..."
The message, based on Psalm 76:10, was entitled The Dominion of Providence Over the Passions of Men. Rev. DeYoung wrote, "As partly an exploration of the colonies’ right to revolt, the sermon is widely regarded as helping to prepare the way for the decisive move for independence later that summer."
That day was chosen by the Continental Congress as a day of fasting and prayer, as they were growing in their understanding that they should throw off the shackles of government overreach by King George III.
The current administration chose this day -- not knowing it was in alignment with the day that opened the way to The Declaration of Independence -- to rededicate America back to the Lord.
What could be in store for us in the months and years to come?
Rev. Dr. Linda Warren pondered that at last night's service of Westchester Chapel, where Joyce and I serve:

Joyce and I are on the Washington Mall today rededicating America to the Lord with thousands.
We'll be covering it for Intercessors for America and plan to post photos and videos Tuesday on www.HeadlinePrayer.org and Headline Prayer Live. I'll post those to this blog as soon as I'm able, and if you're not subscribed to get updates, you can do that at www.RichDrama.com/blog/post/Updates.
If you can't get to Washington, D.C., today, you can rededicate with us below...
I'll be portraying Rev. Dr. Witherspoon on the 4th of July at the Museum of the Bible and a different historical figure at the Kennedy Center Premiere of Star Spangled Adventures the Movie:
