I just had a great conversation with some people about whether or not Jesus is God. Here are the scriptures I told them about: Ro. 1:4, 9:5, Mt 1:23; 1:18,20, 3:16; 28:19; Lk 1:35; 5:20-21; Jn 1:1,3,10,14,18; 5:18; 14:6ff.; 2Co 13:14; Php 2:6; Col 1:15-20; 2:9; Tit 2:13; Heb 1:3,8; 2Pe 1:1; 1 John 2:23, 5:20; Rev 1:13-18; 22:13

Since the Jehovah's Witness Bible changes some of these passages, you should look them up in another translation. You can find several at BibleGateway.com.

Here's the testimony of my friend, Eric Metaxas, who attended Yale University. That crushed the faith of his youth and sent him on a path to universalism, but a vision woke him up to the reality of Christ.

A woman wrote an article called "The Atheist's Dilemma" about how she became a Christian while studying at Harvard. I had a seminary professor who also found the Lord at Harvard. When I spoke on a Christian Union panel hosted by Harvard (RichDrama.com/IvyLeague) I saw 380 students from all eight Ivy League schools praising the Lord with passion.

"Christianity is not a religion of impersonal assent to certain religious notions, defensible by rigid arguments. It is the dynamic personal relationship of the believer with God through Christ." (Richard L. Pratt, *Every Thought Captive*)

Here are some scriptures that speak of what Jesus Christ did for us...

Mark 10:45: “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Romans 5:8: God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:23: The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:32: He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

2 Corinthians 5:21: For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 8:9: You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

1 Timothy 1:15: The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

1 John 4:10: In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Revelation 5:9: “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation . . .”

...God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

Here's one way Jesus explains his Divinity: "If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
John 14:7-11 ESV

I found myself walking behind a man and a woman, and she was telling him about Jesus. She didn’t get to say much, because he was building his case that every religion had a charismatic leader (though none but Jesus claimed to be God, give his life through the most excruciating form of capital punishment in the history of humankind, and come back from the dead three days later). At one point he said God must be up there saying “Why can’t you see they’re all the same.” At that point I wanted to say, “No. God’s up there saying, ‘I sent my Son to die for you, why are you messing with all those man-made religions.’” But I held my peace and prayed for the right opening. At the end of the block I said, “You should check out The Case for Christ. The woman was delighted! The man was shocked. He indicated he would, and I pray that he does.

Our friend Eric Metaxas shows that expanding technology reduces the plausibility that the universe could have existed without a Creator.

This morning I got to listen to three-time Emmy award winner, Michael Guillen Phd, speak to members of Mastermedia. He opened by sharing his testimony of studying at Cornell University as an atheist and hearing Carl Sagan teach about what life is. Dr. Guillen found the answer unsatisfying, and he searched a variety of spiritual answers that didn't line up with what he was learning about science. A Valentine's Day card slipped under his door led to a reading of the Bible with the "best looking girl on campus" and an understanding that science and the Bible are confirming each other's world views. He later wrote Amazing Truths: How Science and the Bible Agree. He told us the more science progresses the more clear that this is the case. He says the things we disagree about are really minor, and the more science develops the more they will confirm each other. "Truth doesn't cancel out Truth," he said.

He spent the bulk of his time with us talking about his new book, The End of Life as We Know It: Ominous News From the Frontiers of Science.
