On September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed, ending our eight year War of Independence, and making us a sovereign nation in the eyes of the world.

I mentioned that I portrayed Thomas Jefferson being interviewed by Rev. Dr. Jim Garlow. That will air tomorrow night on World Prayer Network at 7 p.m.

The Movie

I was blessed to play three different characters in Star Spangled Adventures the Movie, which covers our nation's 250 years of independence:

At 46:07 I play Patrick, an Irish ship builder, as America enters World War II. They used my face and beard as the basis for the character! Too fun!


Then at 55:30 I play Ludwig, opposite Sylvia, played by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's niece, Dr. Alveda King. Moments later (56:28) I play Colonel in the same scene with Sylvia. 


Though we didn't get to perform at the same time, it was quite an honor to be in that scene about her uncle twice.

When the film premiered at The Kennedy Center, I got to portray Thomas Jefferson and lead some Little Patriots in the Pledge of Allegiance before introducing Scott Turner, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and a former NFL player. I got a chance to speak with him backstage and asked if there was anything he wanted me to be sure to mention in his intro. He said, "Just tell them I love my God, my family, and my country." 

I actually asked to use a handheld mic, so I could make a big deal about it as an inventor! Then I had to pull out my spectacles since the Pledge was written long after "my time." It was super fun!

Lives are on the line in many states as physician-assisted suicide is becoming law. Lord, may doctors and patients surrender to Your will and timing. May those in agony turn to You and not a poisonous concoction.

On August 5, the Medical Aid in Dying Act became law in New York State, allowing doctors to prescribe deadly medication to patients expected to die within six months.

I was blessed to portray two of our founders on the third and Fourth of July at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., for Intercessors for America's Rededicate America. I realized I never posted the article Joyce and I wrote about that event:

Lord, thank You for inspiring Intercessors for America to gather us together to celebrate our SuperCentennial of religious freedom in America!

IFA’s Rededicate America at the Museum of the Bible on the third and Fourth of July was sold out and jam-packed with inspiration, fellowship, and worship, as we joined our minds and hearts to recount, reclaim, and rededicate.

Our colleague, April Walker, wrote a companion piece: "Reaping Harvests at Rededicate America."


Neither Joyce nor I was able to be on Headline Prayer Live that week, but our colleague led intercessors in praying through our article. Also, that Thursday Rededicate America and my performances were covered on Pray with America's Leaders.


On July 23 Kris Kubal interviewed me on Pray with America's Leaders about my performances at Rededicate America, and they showed my July 3 monologue, "Something's Brewing in Boston": 

I was teaching that whole day, so we needed to pre-record the interview. We recorded silence for the "All Pray" moments, when the phone line was unmuted, and everyone prayed at once to the One who heard them all. Those prayers were not recorded when the interview aired.

The Signing of the "Engrossed" Declaration of Independence

I was invited to appear as Thomas Jefferson on August 2, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the "engrossed" version of the Declaration of Independence, but I was a late entry and they filled the promised 90 minute program. Also, there was an actor who performed live and included some of the same excerpts from Samuel Adams' speech at Independence Hall on August 1, 1776, that I used in my monologue. 


Whatever the reason or reasons my contribution wasn't included, I wanted to share it with you:

A blessed 250th anniversary of the day Samuel Adams spoke from the steps of Independence Hall, August 1, 1776, when he put into perspective exactly what we had accomplished in rejecting a man as our king. 


I'll appear as Thomas Jefferson on Sunday, which is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the "engrossed" version of the Declaration of Independence. Though all present at the Continental Congress agreed on the final draft on the Fourth of July, a publisher made a larger version that was signed on August 2, 1776. 


A group of organizations came under the umbrella of 250 Declaration to celebrate the day "America’s Founders signed the famous Declaration of Independence. Although they adopted its language earlier in July, August 2 was the moment that their names were fixed to a public document and their pledge became permanent." 


250 Declaration is hosting a special in which I -- as Thomas Jefferson -- will reflect on that day, as well as on Samuel Adams' speech from the steps of Independence Hall the day before.

I was delighted to receive this photo from a dear friend who snapped it in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. I’ve been so busy posting about SuperCentennial Celebrations that I’ve watched three anniversaries go sailing by like the Flying Scotsman:


July 6

* 102nd anniversary of Eric Liddell preaching at the Scots Kirk while famously not running in the 100m qualifying heat because that year it fell on a Sunday

* 2nd anniversary of Beyond the Chariots at the Scots Kirk in Paris


July 11

* 102nd anniversary of Eric Liddell breaking the world record in the 400m

* 2nd anniversary of Beyond the Chariots at the Eric Liddell Community and Morningside United Church (where Eric taught Sunday School) in Edinburgh


July 13

* 102nd anniversary of Eric skipping the relay heats and preaching at the Scots Kirk

* 2nd anniversary of Joyce and I traveling from Edinburgh to Kilsyth, Scotland, for a performance set up on the 6th


Li Airui was what the Chinese would call him. I think Li was for Liddell, since Chinese family names are one syllable and come before their given names. Airui is an easier way for them to say, “Eric,” since names in that region of China (near Beijing) typically begin with a consonant and end in a vowel. His amah called him “Nellie!”


Tonight’s #ScriptureInTheNight certainly fits Eric Liddell, pointing to Heaven (literally) with every step, and, as the paragraph at the end of Chariots of Fire eulogized: “Eric Liddell, missionary, died in occupied China at the end of World War II. All of Scotland mourned.” Those two sentences drew me into telling that part of his story: www.RichDrama.com/blog/post/BeyondTheChariots.

Harold Abrahams is the other main character in Chariots of Fire. He was Jewish and the film showed him using his sprinting prowess to overcome antisemitism. The panel in Galashiels quotes him commenting on Eric’s odd running: “People may shout their heads off about his appalling style. Well, let them. He gets there!”
